COURSE SYLLABUS

 

 

COURSE CONTENT:

 

We will use the text Ethics: A Pluralistic Approach to Moral Theory as we cover the following ethical domains:

 

*   Ethical Relativism

*   The Diversity of Theories

*   The Ethics of Divine Commands

*   Egoism

*   Utilitarianism

*   The Ethics of Duty

*   The Ethics of Rights

*   The Ethics of Character

*   Gender Ethics

*   Multicultural Ethics

 

The semester grade will consist of the following:

 

*   Textbook Review Questions

*   Group PowerPoint Lecture

*   Weekly Internet Research and Ethics Articles Analyses

*   Daily Participation in class and Weekly Participation on the Discussion Board at our Class Web Site at www.epic333.net

*   The Final Exam—Covers Book Chapters and the Glossary

 

COURSE PROCESSES:

 

Students should expect

 

*  Teacher-led lectures

*  Whole-class and small-group discussions based on the text

*  Daily whole-class discussions based on a series of ethical dilemmas from a variety of teacher-chosen sources

*  Student-led PowerPoint lectures focusing on our textbook

*  Weekly Internet research to retrieve published ethics-related articles for personal analysis

 

GRADING SCALE

 

*   90-100%  = A

*   80-89.9% = B

*   70-79.9% = C

*   58-69.9% = D

 

Class Rules

 

*   Students need to be in the room when the final bell rings.

*   Please do not bring food, drink, or gum into our classroom.

*   Students must arrive prepared to work.  A pen, pencil, and three-ring notebook are minimum requirements.
